Fanklemade Services

Did you know, I offer commission work as part of the Fanklemade services I provide to customers?

I was recently commissioned to make a necklace as a special birthday present for a lucky lady. Having previously purchased some earrings from me, her partner wanted an illusion necklace with the same natural freshwater pearls.

Goal

The goal is to create something unique, meeting the client’s requirements and most importantly suiting and fitting the end recipient! The last point is especially important if the commission is a surprise gift for someone else. You need to glean as much information from the client as possible regarding measurements, what colours suit the wearer and also, what type of occasion the jewellery will be worn for example, worn daily or on special occasions.

Fit for purpose

All my jewellery is handmade, with cold connections, unlike factory made items. They are more delicate and need to be handled carefully. Knowing when the jewellery will be worn will help me determine the best process and materials to be used, to ensure it is fit for purpose.

For example, not all gemstones have the same level of durability. They are graded according to their hardness using the Mohs scale. It measures how resistant a gemstone or mineral is to being scratched or damaged when exposed to general wear and tear.

Jewellery worn on the hand or finger will normally be more exposed to wear and tear than necklaces or earrings.

Conversation

All my creations have a little bit of me in them but commission work involves the vision of the client as well. So, it is essential to have a clear understanding of the client’s requirements. This means not only discussing the project at length at the beginning but also maintaining a conversation throughout the process. A continuous conversation is essential, especially at each stage of the project, to ensure my creation is in alignment with the client’s wishes.

Journey of Discovery

The interesting thing about commissions is I may end up making something I wouldn’t necessarily have considered before. It is an opportunity to consider new materials and possibly apply new techniques. Each new project is a journey of discovery and that is always fun!

Reviews and Recommendations

As a small business owner, it is important to me, not only to provide a good product and service to customers but also to receive feedback from them. It is fed back directly to me. I am able to react quickly, making changes where necessary. It helps me grow in my business, understanding what works and what doesn’t.

I am delighted to say that the customer and the recipient loved the finished piece and left lovely reviews for me.

If you have an idea for a piece of jewellery or home decor you would like, please feel free to contact me.

Fanklemade Story

Blog

Fanklemade Introduction

I am Sheree, the designer and creator behind Fanklemade products. I started my business in 2017 making handmade gemstone jewellery at directly to customers and via craft fairs.

Portfolio

Gradually, I expanded my Fanklemade portfolio to provide handmade bags, leather products, textile, vinyl and metal home décor items. I also opened my Etsy shop.

Everyday is school day for me, learning new techniques and processes as I hone my skills, not only as a maker but also as a business owner.

Why did I start making?

Partly through necessity as I could never find the right colour or style of clothing to suit me. Partly because I wanted to wear something different or wanted to decorate my home with one-off items.

Every Fanklemade piece is lovingly made with a desire to create unique, affordable items to be enjoyed by you.

Social media

During the month of March this year, I took up the challenge to improve my presence on social media. So, I created daily posts for my Fanklemade Facebook and Instagram pages.

Why don’t you check the posts out on my Fanklemade pages, there are 31 posts with #Marchmeetthemaker in the title. It was an opportunity to introduce me and my business to current and future customers and give an insight into my creative world.

For me, this was no mean feat! I am very much a novice in the world of social media and up until now, have been rather reluctant to show my face, as it were; preferring viewers to concentrate on my handmade products.

It is obvious that for those of you who are unable to see me at crafting events, blogs and other online communications like this are a way for you to begin to know me, follow my progress and hopefully enjoy my creations.
